Eco logic: Developing the toolkit for educating secondary education students about circular chemistry
21/03/by Eco Logic
Eco Logic is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the protection and conservation of the environment, the promotion of modern ecological practices, as well as monitoring and promoting the principle of sustainable development.
The objective of our output for the project “CIRCLE LAB”, is the design and development of a toolkit for educating secondary education students on circular chemistry. The innovative aspect is the provision of a set of supporting materials for both teachers and students contributing to the theoretical lessons. Such materials address many topics that are highly relevant to circular chemistry. For example, the cycle of products, the use of waste, optimizing energy and resource efficiency, how to be more sustainable, and how ESD principles are applied to science.
The toolkit will impact the quality of the educational offer on the topic since it will represent practical support for teachers and will be transferrable throughout the secondary school across Europe. The practical approach of this output will enable teachers to conduct more engaging activities that encourage and inspire the active participation of students. The toolkit will be available in the online environment delivered by Intellectual Output 4 in English. Therefore, the toolkit can be distributed easily to teachers and different schools across Europe, thus being highly accessible for the different stakeholders.
The development of the ToolKit will be a step-by-step approach. First, define the methodology which includes the objectives, stakeholders involved, type of tools, etc; then design the ToolKit architecture and contents; finally, provide implementation guidelines.
- Educational game about circular chemistry
- BE-LABs - Interactive manuals, interactive diagrams, and schemes for ESD applied to science;
- Guidelines for day-to-day applications of ESD principles and on how to move towards a more green, sustainable economy;
- Links to useful resources from the web such as carbon and water footprint calculations or simplified Life Cycle Analysis tools available online, complemented with examples, practical exercises, and a set of guidelines;
- Toolkit guidelines for students and teachers.
Eco Logic will design the concept for the components of the toolkit in accordance with the partners’ research. This task will be carried out in parallel with Intellectual Output 4, therefore, continuous information exchange and mutual feedback between both outputs will be kept ensuring the utility of the toolkit’s components in the platform. The toolkit will impact the quality of the educational offer on the topic since it will represent practical support for teachers and will be transferrable throughout the secondary school across Europe.
